Drumcarrow Equestrian is the home of Lohoar Sport Horses, where our passion for breeding top-quality horses began back in 2002. While our first foal was certainly a special moment, it was our beloved Foundation mare, Rumalia, who truly inspired our current breeding program. Without her, we wouldn't be where we are today. We owe it all to this incredible mare and the legacy she has left behind.

Rumalia, our Foundation mare, bred her first foal, Castro, in 2007, while on a break due to injury. She became our first-ever Grand Prix horse, competed by both Angus and Stephen, and her legacy lives on through the breeding program we have today. Even after retirement, Rumalia had seven more foals for us, all sharing her fantastic temperament and ability. She was indeed the Queen of Drumcarrow and played an integral role in the success of our breeding program.

At Lohoar Sport Horses, we firmly believe that breeding top equine athletes start with the mother. We aim to produce top-quality sport horses. Still, even for those not destined for the highest level of competition, conformation, attitude, and trainability are vital. The mare is the most crucial component, and we carefully select a stallion to improve her further.

We focus our breeding program on a small selection of proven broodmares, using a combination of Embryo Transfer and natural pregnancies. We are fortunate to have Stephen's partner, Selena, who runs the onsite equine reproduction centre at Premier A.I. Services. With our land and facilities, we raise our youngsters in the most natural way possible, contributing to the quality of the final package that is produced.

Rumalia's legacy lives on through her offspring and grandson, who still reside with us at Drumcarrow, reminding us of everything she did for us. At Lohoar Sport Horses, we pride ourselves on breeding world-class horses. With our commitment to breeding excellence and natural rearing methods, we aim to continue producing top-quality sport horses for years to come.

Our Breeding Programme

  • Dirana Van ‘T Heike

    (Tamura V’T Heike x Aladdin Z)

    ‘Omagh’ competed up to 1.50m level with Stephen and has exceptional rideability, scope, and a fantastic brain. She is the exact type of horse we aim to produce ourselves and has had offspring sired by Corland, Emerald & Carambole.

    Her young stock have all inherited her fantastic attitude and rideability, with two of her fillies being sold to be further produced in the USA.

  • Pia Van'T Rivalenhof

    (Adorado x Thunder)

    ‘Pia’ is a Phenomenol stamp and her dam Dalida VD Zuuthoeve has consistently bred remarkable stock with every one of her older siblings jumping 1.45 to 1.60m - Full brother ‘Levisto’ competed in the Nations Cup Final in Barcelona in 2022 & qualified for the 2024 Olympic games.

    We sold her brother ‘Noukie’ by Deauville in 2018 and he jumped the 5* World Cup Qualifier as a 8yo in Sopot Poland in 2021. With Pia showing the same exceptional promise while jumping at the Sunshine tour as a 5yo we made the decision to retire her from sport to breed.

    We currently have Pia’s full sister Regina Van’T Rivalenhof in partnership with Rolex Grand Slam Winner Scott Brash MBE and have successfully flushed embryos from her. Pia so far has produced two fillies and we are very excited about continuing the line with this very exciting family.

  • Acorde

    (Boston Van De Rechni/Clinton/ Darco x Noncorde)

    ‘April’ is out of the same Dam as 1.60 5* Nation Cup horse Hello Winner. She jumped up to 1.35m herself and was very careful and rideable.

    We are excited to welcome her first foal by Untouchable due in April 2023.

  • Quainton Layla

    (Quainton Lancelot x Oklund)

    ‘Layla’ was one of the most exciting young horses in the country and jumped up to 1.45m until she retired due to injury.

    Layla was an exceptionally careful & talented horse; she has full brothers jumping 1.40 & 1.60m.

    We currently have ET foals by Cicero and Aganix du Seigneur on the ground.

  • L’Aurore des vavres

    (Dino de dampierre/Papillon Rouge x Night & Day)

    Cheval du Selle Francais ( Starter). ‘Aurora’ was a prolific 1.45m horse and was she was an exceptionally careful a natural speed horse, and an out & out winner.

    Aurora has so far produced 2 foals after retiring at 18 by sires Arko and Johnnie Walker VDL.

    Aurora’s first filly will be broken this year and we look forward to seeing if she will follow in her mother’s footsteps.
